Stewardship

  1. The administration of land and associated resources in a manner that enables their passing on to future generations in a healthy condition. [source: DCNR State Forestry Resource Management Plan, Glossary of Terms: http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/sfrmp/glossary.htm]
  2. Active care and sustainable use of private lands, based on a moral commitment to conservation. It may be as simple as leaving a native shrub standing in your yard, to provide a natural food source for wildlife such as migrating birds, or it may be as grand as participating in a stream restoration project and taking a stewardship pledge.
