Privacy

(This privacy policy was last updated on 5/15/2009.)

General

The Pennsylvania Land Trust Association (PALTA) is committed to internet privacy. You can visit most portions of PALTA websites (e.g., ConservationTools.org, conserveland.org, ConservationAdvocate.org, paLandChoices.org, BuySellConserveLand.org, landandwater.org) without telling us who you are and without revealing any personal information. The information we collect from a normal website visit is the name of your Internet service provider, the browser and type of machine you are using, the web site that referred you to us, the pages you request and the date and time you request them. We use this information to generate statistics and measure site activity to improve the usefulness of the PALTA site to our visitors.

Internet Protocol Address

We collect an IP address from all visitors to PALTA websites. An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer when you use the Internet. We use IP addresses to help diagnose problems, administer our websites, analyze trends, track users' movement, gather broad demographic information for aggregate use in order for us to improve the sites, and deliver customized, personalized content. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.

Collection of personally identifiable information

PALTA may collect email addresses and other personally identifiable data about visitors when such data is voluntarily submitted to PALTA websites. For example, our site uses information collection forms for visitors to subscribe to our listservs, to add content to the site or edit that content, and to inform users of site changes and other information to help advance the field of conservation. All such information is collected and stored in a manner appropriate to the nature of the data.

PALTA will never share or sell personal information for commercial purposes. Although it does not presently do so, it may one day broker lists for voter contact and trade lists with like-minded organizations for fundraising. Upon request, a person may choose not to be included in these lists.

Cookies

Like most websites, PALTA may place a "cookie," or small file, in the browser files of a visitor's computer. We use cookies to save information you give us so you don't have to re-enter it each time you visit our site. This allows us to personalize the site to your taste and provide the best web experience possible to our visitors. We do not use cookies to track your movement among different web sites and do not exchange cookies with other entities.

Your browser is probably set to accept cookies. However, if you would prefer not to receive cookies, you can alter the configuration of your browser to refuse cookies. If you choose to have your browser refuse cookies, it is possible that some areas of our site will not function properly when you view them.

Security

All information provided to PALTA is transmitted using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption. SSL is a proven coding system that lets your browser automatically encrypt, or scramble, data before you send it to us. We also protect account information by placing it on a secure portion of our site that is only accessible by certain qualified employees of PALTA. Unfortunately, however, no data transmission over the internet is 100 percent secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of such information.

Our site contains links to other websites. Please note that when you click on one of these links, you are entering another website for which PALTA has no responsibility. We encourage you to read the privacy statements on all such sites as their policies may be different than ours.
