Bio

David B. Gilbert, GISP, was elected president of the Pennsylvania Mapping and Geographic Information Consortium (PaMAGIC) for 2008. PaMAGIC, a nonprofit organization founded in 1996, was formed for the purpose of promoting information sharing among geographic information system (GIS) professionals throughout the Commonwealth. Gilbert has worked for GeoDecisions, an information technology company specializing in geospatial solutions, for the past 22 years. He is located in the firm’s State College, Pa., office, where he oversees GIS services for many commercial and state, county, and local government clients throughout Pennsylvania. Gilbert specializes in needs assessments, strategic planning, data conversion, and environmental modeling projects. As president of PaMAGIC, Gilbert will work to incorporate the organization’s 2008 initiatives, including increasing the amount of information PaMAGIC members can access, developing comprehensive floodplain mapping standards, enhancing the chapter’s emergency database, and streamlining data sharing and data standards among members. Gilbert holds a bachelor of science in wildlife science from The Pennsylvania State University and is a Certified Geographic Information Systems Professional. He is a member of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association and is active in the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s roundtable program. For more than 15 years, Gilbert has served on the coordinating committee for a local watershed organization as an instructor for the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s Hunter Trapper Education program.
